For Our Patients

We realize that surgery can create anxiety.  We want your registration process to go as smoothly as possible.  We have created a guide to help ease this process.

Before your surgery, you should receive 2-3 phone calls. They include:

                   1. Verifying demographic and insurance information will ensure benefit verification and preauthorization

2. Notification of any financial responsibilities due at time of service

3. Pre-Operative interview

Once you arrive at the facility, you will be given several consents to read and sign. These consents include:

Financial Policy and authorization to bill your insurance

Consent for Treatment

Consent for Anesthesia

Advanced Directives

If you are a Medicare Recipient, you will also be asked to complete and sign a Medicare Secondary Questionnaire.

"Admissions & Preparing For Surgery"

Your physician's office will give you the date and arrival time of your surgery.  Patients usually arrive 1 to 1.5 hours before the scheduled time of your procedure.  When you arrive, you will be met by a staff member committed to providing you with individualized attention. Our staff is experienced and competent, and the comfortable setting of our facility is designed to create a low stress environment.

1.  Bring insurance cards and a photo identification card.

2.  Please bring a list of all medications you are currently taking.  Bring any with you that you may need during your stay here, such as an inhaler.

3.  Wear loose fitting clothing so you will be comfortable.

4.  Be sure to bathe (or shower) and brush your teeth the morning of your procedure.  This will assist you in feeling refreshed, as well as minimize chances of infection.

5.  Remove all piercings, jewelry, contact lenses, and nail polish before coming to the Surgery Center.  Leave all of your valuables at home.

6.  Parents of minors must be remain in the waiting area of the Surgery Center.

7.  Remember not to eat or drink before your surgery.  This is very important!!!

Follow the instructions given to you by the Pre-Op Nurse.  They will call you before your surgery.  If you do not hear from a Pre-Op Nurse, please call the center at 770.270.1284.  Medications for blood pressure, heart conditions, asthma or emphysema may be taken with a small sip of water at their usual prescribed time.  Undigested food in the stomach can cause complications, and your surgery is likely to be postponed for you own safety if you forget to follow this instruction.

8.  Patients may NOT drive themselves home if they have had any type of anesthesia, including IV conscious sedation.  We strongly recommend that your ride be present upon arrival and stay with you until discharge. If you arrive without your driver present, you will be required to provide the driver's name and phone number, and physical contact must be made by our staff before your procedure can start. You will not be allowed to drive yourself home. You will not be allowed to take a taxi, by yourself, or take public transportation alone. This includes pain management procedures as well.

9.  All patients must have an adult with them the night following their surgery.

10.  Reconfirm the times of your surgery with your Physician.

11.  If you suspect that you are pregnant or there is the possibility of being pregnant, please notify your doctor and anesthesiologist.  Anesthesia and medications may be harmful to your developing baby.

"After the Surgery"

After the surgery, you will be moved to our fully-equipped Recovery Room, where you will remain under close observation by the Anesthesiologist and our Recovery Room staff.  Although the length of your stay post-operatively varies according to the type of procedure and your surgeon's instructions, most patients are discharged 1 to 2 hours after surgery. Your doctor will talk to a family member/friend after your surgery.  It is very important for this person to remain in the building.

Your surgeon and nurse will provide post-operative instructions regarding diet and medications.  The Center will provide you with a written summary of these instructions.

Please follow these general instructions after your surgery:

1. Have your family member or close friend drive you home

2. Plan to have someone stay with you for 24 hours

3. Pamper yourself for the first 24 hours following surgery

Since it is normal to feel drowsy after receiving anesthesia, we urge you to postpone these activities for 24 hours:

1. Operating or driving equipment

2. Signing important documents

3. Making significant decisions

4. Drinking alcoholic beverages

If you have any questions or concerns, please call your surgeon.  We will call you following your surgery to answer any questions and to see how you are feeling.
